WAEC 2025 WASSCE Results Are Here: What You Must Know

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates. With a significant drop in performance compared to the previous year, this post guides you on how to check your result, interpret key statistics, understand withheld cases, and next steps for university admission and further opportunities.

1. Official Release & Performance Overview 🔍

On Monday, August 4, 2025, WAEC announced via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle that the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates are now live.

WAEC Head of Nigeria Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, revealed at a press briefing in Lagos that out of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat the exams (out of 1,973,365 registered), only 38.32% earned credits in at least five subjects including English and Mathematics, a steep drop from the 72.12% pass rate in 2024—a 33.8% decline year-on-year.

Key stats include:

  • Total candidates who sat exam: 1,969,313

  • Fully processed results: 1,517,517 (77.06%)

  • Withheld results: 192,089 (9.75%) due to malpractice investigations

Male candidates numbered 976,787 and female 992,526 (roughly 50/50)

2. Why the Performance Dip Matters

📉 Reduced Admission Eligibility

With only 38% meeting the minimum requirement for university admission, competition for limited slots will be intense. Courses like law, medicine, engineering, and pharmacy may require significantly higher scores.

📌 Factors Behind the Decline

Dr. Dangut attributed the drop to poor study habits, reliance on exam malpractice, and disruptions during exams—especially delayed issuance of English Language papers late at night in some centers

💡 Anti-Cheating Measures

WAEC adopted serialization of objective test papers in key subjects like English, Maths, Biology, and Economics to limit collusion. This helped reduce malpractice to 9.75%, down from last year's 11.92%
